How to Replace the Bathroom Sink When Remodeling
- 1). Turn off the water to the bathroom. Try turning on the faucet to make sure the water is off before removing the sink.
- 2). Disconnect the drain. First, detach the trap. If you can't detach the trap, remove the entire trap. Place a bucket under the trap to catch any excess water. Release the stem from the drain on the sink. To do this, loosen the large nut at the end of the drain pipe. Pull out the drain.
- 3). Loosen the little screw clips that mount the sink to the vanity. Once loosened, these clips unhook from the sink. Lift the sink out.
- 4). Clean the dirt from around the edge of the hole left when you remove the sink. Cleaning the edge will ensure that the new sink will fit properly.
- 1). Apply caulking to the underside of the sink rim. Lower the new sink over the hole in the vanity. Make sure the sink is centered over the hole.
- 2). Install the new drain. Connect the conical gasket on the bottom side with a washer and nut to tighten it. Screw on the top part and tighten the nut from the bottom. Apply some caulking around the gasket and the top part to ensure it bonds to the sink. The caulking will ensure that the water stays in the sink.
- 3). Install the drain plug mechanism before installing the trap.
- 4). Turn on the water and ensure that there are no leaks. Tighten all of the connections and nuts if no leaks are found.
