  One of the most attractive traditions of any holiday is the outside lighting. While outdoor lighting is most common at Christmas, Halloween also features plenty of decorations and lighting. Many people have incredible displays that take many hours to create, while some people seem to struggle to come up with ideas for the perfect lighting display.
  
  

Motion Sensors

• One of the most advanced devices available in holiday lighting is the motion sensor. These will activate a light or display as soon as they sense motion. These are perfect for Halloween decorations. For example, set up a group of lights and a spooky monster in a bush. Attach this display to a motion sensor and aim it towards the sidewalk. When trick-or-treaters walk by, the motion sensor will activate the display and the monster. This will startle and delight many children. These displays can also work wonders for Christmas displays. Motion sensors for your lights can be easily bought from any holiday decoration store and can be easily installed in a few minutes.
  
  

Form Lights

• Creating your own shapes with holiday lights can be an exciting but exhausting activity. Sometimes, it's easier to use formed lights. Form lights are wire frames with lights draped over top. These are available at most holiday decoration stores and are a way to speed up the decoration process. For Christmas, buy a Santa sleigh and elves and put them in the center of your yard. Find some scary witches and wolves for your Halloween decorations and place them in your yard. Don't rely simply on forms, though. Create your own shapes with lights to compliment your forms. Use tomato plant wires to create simple forms for your lights and place them next to your forms to create a colorful display.
  
  

Use the Whole House

• Think about the last lighted house that really impressed you with its lights. Chances are the whole house was used in the display and not just a small portion of the yard. Using your entire house can create a truly impressive holiday experience. Hang white lights downwards off of your gutters. This creates an icicle effect that is very impressive in the winter. Place your forms in your trees and dangle free strands around the forms to decorate your trees. Place ghoulish jack-o-lanterns in all of your windows to create a terrifying ambiance. Place a Santa display on your roof along with several rows of lights behind him, indicating his "landing strip." Witch forms can be placed on your roof during Halloween. Set scary lit up black cats on your bushes for Halloween or hide elves playfully peeking out at Christmas.
