How to Make a Baptismal

    • 1). Choose the child's godparents. The Godparents are generally a married couple. Only one godparent is actually required in most faiths, although that person has to be a practicing member of the faith into which the child is being baptized. The godparents should also be well-connected to the family to exercise the responsibilities they undertake, which include praying for the godchild regularly, setting an example of Christian living, helping the godchild to grow up in the faith, and encouraging the child to follow Christ and fight against evil. The godparents may also be asked to perform ritual functions during the baptism, such as holding the child.

    • 2). Contact your church to schedule a date and time. Most churches set aside specific days for baptisms. Once you know the officiant's schedule and yours, choose a day that will accommodate everyone's schedule.

    • 3). Ask your pastor, minister or priest for more information about your faith's baptismal customs. This will cover any details you may be missing. It will also validate what everyone should be wearing and saying during the ceremony. In the end, having additional knowledge and tools available to you will make the day's events less stressful while educating all the participants.

    • 4). Send invitations. Announcing the ceremony to your friends and family through a written invitation is a dignified approach to this Christian event. It will also give guests enough time to plan to attend the baptism.

    • 5). Plan and setup an after-party, if desired. This will allow friends and family time to mingle and celebrate the baptism of your child. The party can be held at the church's hall, if it is available. Consult with your church about renting the space for the event. This will spare the guests from traveling and will streamline the baptism and party transition.

    • 6). Shop for the baptism and after-party. Speaking with your church officiant to find out what to wear and bring. Your child might need a christening gown, or you might need event supplies for the party.
