Land Port of Entry Vehicle Barrier Specifications
- The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USBP) and the United States Border Patrol (USBP) have set up such vehicle barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border. The barrier is along the east and west sides of the Columbus, New Mexico port of entry. The two government agencies are proposing to replace some of the vehicle barrier with fencing. They are doing this in a bid to ensure further security for this sensitive border spot.
- SecureUSA, a provider of vehicle barrier products, has come out with a product called FutureWedge. This product is a 9-inch, all-electric vehicle barrier that meets a standard crash certification. The wedge plate barrier acts to provide final denial for security purposes at roadways, access control points and entrances. This heavy-duty vehicle barrier can stop a 15,000-pound vehicle traveling at 50 miles per hour, according to SecureUSA.
- The specifications for vehicle barriers include aspects such as how deep the ground needs to be excavated in order to install the barriers. Another specification relates to their finish. For instance, they could have a liquid spray or powder coat finishing. Typically, these barriers also have a primary control panel to control all their functions. The system specifications could state that this control panel should be of stainless steel and meet certain standard specifications.
- Specifications for these vehicle barriers also typically state what temperature conditions they should be able to withstand. The barriers may need to function in extreme temperatures and their specifications state what these temperature extremes are. They should be able to withstand conditions of snow and ice. Thus, the specifications from government agencies looking for these vehicle barriers could state that the vehicle barrier should be able to withstand freezing precipitation, through the installation of heat strips, for instance. In terms of flood conditions, the specifications could state what levels of flood the vehicle barriers should be able to withstand. For instance, government purchasers may specify that the barriers be able to withstand up to 6 inches of standing water.
