Weather Makes Living Here Feel Like a Paradise
When I sit in my backyard after a day of selling real estate I think, how can it get much better than this? The weather in Southern California is fantastic with 350 days of sunshine, 10 days of rain and 5 days of wind.
The lows average 40 degrees and the highs average 80 degrees.
There are probably 10 days a year where you need to wear a jacket.
Each evening I settle down in by backyard to read the paper and relax.
I read about the temperatures back east in the low 20's and think about how lucky I am to live in Orange County California and absorb this beautiful weather and peruse my beautiful backyard still full of flowers and vegetables still growing in abundance here in December.
I wonder why the whole east coast doesn't get on buses, planes and trains and head for Southern California.
It has always been a mystery to me why some people endure the harshness of winter when there are other options.
I suppose if everyone did move here there would not be sufficient jobs to support everyone.
When I lived up north in colder climate I used to hear people say, "Orange County is nice but they don't have the four seasons to enjoy.
" How much is the enjoyment of the four season's worth over the enjoyment of this fantastic weather? Thank goodness for the four seasons which keeps us from becoming too heavily populated? Another reason I used to hear for not moving here is the when the continental shelf splits off, we will all fall into the ocean and drown.
I also heard about the terrible earthquakes we get here, that will have us all falling into holes or being crushed by falling debris.
I have been here for over 70 years and nothing like that has happened.
With the rest of my time here, I will gamble it will not happen.
Someday I hope to reside in Paradise and I expect it to be beautiful, but the life in Orange County is so wonderful and beautiful that I am not in a rush.
Last week my Pastor gave a sermon and said how people are looking forward to the second coming of Christ, raise your hand.
Everyone raised their hand.
Then he said, "How many people are looking forward to him coming today?" Nobody raised their hand.
I wonder if he would have gotten different results if he gave the sermon in a city with harsh weather.
I think we are truly blessed here in Orange County and because of the beautiful weather people are able to get out more and socialize with their neighbors.
There are a lot more outdoor activities to enjoy.
I think Orange County is the closest thing to a paradise on earth.
However, if I ask my grandchildren they think Disneyland is Paradise.
But that's here, too.
