Fetal Development in Week 26 of Pregnancy
- According to the American Pregnancy Association, the fetus is now just over 13 inches long and weighs 2 lbs.
- The American Pregnancy Association reveals that the ears are now functioning and the fetus will soon be able to respond to sounds from outside the womb.
- According to the Mayo Clinic, the eyes of the fetus are now developed though she may not open them yet. In two more weeks, she will be able to open and close her eyes as well as respond to stimuli such as a flashlight pointed at the belly.
- The lungs are now developed enough for the fetus to have the possibility of living outside the womb with medical support. The American Pregnancy Association states amniotic fluid is being ingested daily in an effort to prepare the lungs.
