How to Get Cigarette Smoke Out of Books
- 1). Set the book upright on a table or other flat surface with the pages slightly fanned. Turn a fan on low speed and direct the fan toward the pages of the book. Alternatively, place the book near an open window or outdoors in a dry, shady spot. Don't place the book in direct sunlight. The fresh air will decrease the severity of the smoke odor and may be enough to remove the odor from books that are only mildly affected.
- 2). Place a shallow rack, such as a baking rack, on the bottom of a large plastic container. Use an airtight container with a tight-fitting lid.
- 3). Cover the bottom of the plastic container with a layer of odor neutralizer, such as baking soda, kitty litter or activated charcoal. Set the book upright on the rack, above the odor neutralizer, with the pages slightly fanned.
- 4). Place the lid tightly on the plastic container. Allow the book to remain in the container for at least a week. Repeat if necessary.
