Withdrawing from Online Poker Rooms
When you first sign up at a poker site, you are met with a conglomeration of fast, secure and easy deposit methods. You're given encouraging, step-by-step instructions as to the prompt fluidity of credit cards and debit cards, the impeccable security of online payment processors. The only direct mention of withdrawals, at this point anyway, is the methods you'll be eligible to use when requesting a cash out.
However, if you delve a bit further into a typical poker rooms withdrawal process, you're going to have to put a little more time and effort into it.
The first thing you'll find out is that you are, more often than not, required to confirm your identity. Poker rooms don't seem too worried about this when you deposit your funds, but now that you want your cash, they must ensure you are who you say you are.
It's not all so bad as it sounds, since it is for the protection of your identity and finances that poker rooms go to these lengths, but it can be annoying to say the least - especially if you weren't expecting the delay.
When poker rooms request identity verification, they are usually looking for a few documents that only you should be able to supply. These may include a valid picture ID (driver's licenses, photo ID, passport, etc.) with date of birth and expiration visible, and a current proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, credit card statement, etc) with your name and address on it, displaying the company letterhead or full logo.
Most poker rooms will accept these documents as fax or JPEG/PDF file, so long as the information is clear, legible and complete.
Note, however, that the verification process is not required in all cases by all poker rooms. It usually depends on your original deposit method. If you deposited via credit card, your withdrawal will first be directed back to your credit card, usually up to the amount you deposited, but no more. For instance, you deposited $100, then won $100 and want to withdrawal $200. $100 will go back to your credit card, the rest may have to be withdrawn in some other way (payment processor or check).
If you have already registered an online payment processor with an online poker room, such as NETeller or eWalletXpress, you should be able to use this same method for withdrawals, without limitation or ID verification required. That is up to the discretion of individual poker rooms.
If you wish to withdrawal via check, no matter what deposit method you may have used, you will most often be required by poker rooms to complete the ID verification process.
Though it may sound like a bother, it is your personal and financial security at the heart of the matter, and that should never be taken lightly. Poker rooms will only ask you to verify your ID one time. Once it is done, you can request payouts just as easily as you can deposit at online poker rooms.
