Sweet Drinks With Gin
- A traditional Long Island Iced Tea combines gin and several other liquors to create a strong drink that tastes similar to iced tea, albeit with a kick. Pour ½ oz. triple sec, ½ oz. gin, ½ oz. light rum, ½ oz. tequila, ½ oz. vodka and 1 oz. sour mix into a Collins glass filled with ice. Stir the drink well and fill to the top with cola. Garnish with a lemon wedge and serve. You can vary a Long Island with substitutes, such as peach schnapps instead of tequila for a Peach Long Island, or blue curacao for the cola to make an Alaskan Iced Tea.
- A Champagne Fizz is a nice way to enjoy a fancy gin drink, without choosing the traditional martini. The combination of sugar and champagne makes this drink taste sweeter, while the lemon juice balances out the taste. Add 2 oz. gin, 1 oz. fresh lemon juice and 1 tsp. sugar to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain the drink into a highball glass filled with ice and fill to the top with champagne.
- Also known as a Southern Slammer, the Alabama Slammer combines gin and liqueurs to create a sweet and delicious drink. Be sure to tell the bartender you want the cocktail version, as there is also a shot named Alabama Slammer. Pour ½ oz. amaretto almond liqueur, ½ oz. Southern Comfort peach liqueur, ½ oz. sloe gin, a splash of orange juice and a splash of sweet and sour mix into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into an Old Fashioned glass.
- The Clover Club cocktail was created at the Bellevue-Stratford bar in Philadelphia. It's been a popular drink since before Prohibition and uses an egg white to create a foamy head on the cocktail. The raspberry syrup adds a sweet taste. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add 2 oz. gin, the juice of half a lemon, ¼ oz. raspberry syrup, 1 tsp. sugar and one egg white. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. You'll need to shake the drink quite a bit to get the egg and sugar to mix and create the foam.
- The Brooklyn cocktail is a sweet variation on the Manhattan. Muddle five raspberries with five arugula leaves in a cocktail shaker. Add 2 oz. gin, 2 oz. pear nectar and ½ oz. lemon juice, fill to the top with ice and shake well. Strain into a martini glass. Stud a raspberry with an arugula leaf and use it as a garnish.
