    • 1). Purchase a 15-amp surge protector online or at any hardware store. Make sure that the cord is 14-gauge and 5 feet long or less.

    • 2). Plug the power cord into the surge protector, and the pronged end of the surge protector into a grounded electrical outlet. This helps reduce the chance of electrical surges and shocks.

    • 3). Insert the control key into the slot directly beneath the "On/Off" switch and press the "Reset" button beneath the monitor display on the Weslo Cadence LS8. As a safety measure, attach the clip on the other end of the control key to a piece of clothing you are wearing.

    • 4). Slide the LS8's speed control all the way to the left to the "Reset" position, with your feet on the side rails. Slowly move the control to the right to start the treadmill belt; this will automatically turn on the console. Step carefully onto the belt and start walking.

    • 5). Press the "Mode" button, next to the "Reset" button, to display speed, time, distance, calories and fat calories burned. Do not touch the "Mode" button if you would like the console to automatically cycle through the workout information. It will display each mode for five seconds.

    • 6). Slide the speed control on the Weslo Cadence LS8 to the right for different workout speeds. Start with "Warm-Up" and continue with this speed for at least five minutes, then continue to "Fat Burn," "Aerobic" or "Performance."

    • 7). Take your pulse at the end of your workout with the Cadence LS8's thumb sensor. Stand on the side rails and press down firmly with your thumb on the sensor, then lift slightly and hold for 15 seconds until the heart-shaped icon flashes and your pulse is displayed. Step off the machine when finished. The treadmill shuts off automatically after six minutes.
