Proper Mold Removal
- Mold will only grow in areas that have excess moisture and will continue to grow in an area unless you lower the relative humidity, which you can do in several ways. You can install a better ventilation system, use fans more often and fix leaks and flooding as soon as you notice them. Install a dehumidifier if these don't work to lower moisture content. If you don't solve the moisture issue, the mold will return right after you remove it.
- Visible mold growth is actually comprised of hundreds of thousands of mold spores. These spores are microscopic and travel through the air easily when you agitate the mold growth. Once the mold is in the air, it is free to travel to another area of your home. Thus, if you have mold growth, always seal off the area with plastic sheeting to ensure the mold doesn't go to another part of your home.
- Scrubbing dry mold growth will move the mold spores into the air, which will encourage them to spread to other areas of the room. Prevent this by never scrubbing or touching the mold growth until it is wet. Wet spores can't move into the air as easily, and you can remove them more efficiently.
- Killing and removing mold involves spraying a mold cleaning solution over the area. No matter how many precautions you take, however, there will still be mold spores floating through the air. If you don't dry the area completely after cleaning it, the mold spores will simply land back there and will grow in the area you just cleaned.
