How to Troubleshoot a Sears Iron Filter

104 4

Wrong Date and Time in Display

    • 1). Reset the timer of your iron filter if the timer has the incorrect date and time and/or if you see the timer flashing. This happens when your iron filter does not have electrical power due to a power failure, for instance.

    • 2). Press the "Present Time and Day" button in the time display once. The hour will continue flashing in the display, located on the left front of the face plate timer on your iron filter.

    • 3). Press the "Set/Clear" button and hold it until you have the correct hour showing in the display, making certain you have AM or PM showing.

    • 4). Press the "Present Time and Day" button in the time display once, and then press "Set/Clear" until you have the correct minute revealed.

    • 5). Press the "Set/Clear" button to set the current day of the week.

    Blank Timer Display

    • 1). Check all of the connections to your iron filter, including the power cable and electrical outlet if you have a blank timer display.

    • 2). Check other appliances and lights to see if there a power failure occurred in your area -- if so, contact your power company.

    • 3). Order a new face plate, part number 7121734 from Sears if the timer display continues to be blank after securing the connections and checking the power. Your filter may have a defective face plate in this case.

    No Water Flow from Tubing

    • 1). Remove the filter top cover to reach the venturi and nozzle if your filter has no water flow from the tubing, which may indicate a plugged nozzle and venturi. The venturi is a small unit that acts like a vacuum. The nozzle and venturi must be clean in order for the venturi to operate correctly; otherwise, it cannot have the necessary suction to move the potassium permanganate solution from the build-up of dirt, sand and iron. The potassium permanganate solution cleans the iron from the mineral bed after the filtering process.

    • 2). Check to ensure the filter has no water pressure at the nozzle and venturi, meaning the filter is in service cycle, turn the cap from the nozzle and venturi housing off, and then make certain you place the large O-ring seal in a safe place.

    • 3). Remove the screen and screen support, then remove the venturi and nozzle.

    • 4). Remove dirt or iron using a small brush and warm water, and then wash the parts until clean and rinse well. Replace the nozzle and venturi, screen, screen support, O-ring and cap.
