    Immediately After a Treatment

    • After you have your hair removed, the skin will become red and swollen. You will be able to tell where the skin is very tender. You will most likely be provided with a pack of ice after your treatment. If not, make sure that you place some ice or a cold washcloth on the affected area when you get home. You may feel mild pain after the treatment, but you should be able to immediately return to any normal activity. After you have iced the area, you may want to apply moisturizer or suntan lotion. Your practitioner might even prescribe a lotion for you to use for the first few days after your treatment.

    Between Treatments

    • It is important to keep your skin healthy between appointments. Continue to use moisturizer to keep your skin healthy for the next treatment. You should avoid shaving the treated area for the first few days after the hair has been removed in order to avoid irritation. Avoid using any cleaning products that will dry out your skin.

    After Your Treatments

    • After your treatments, you will want to avoid tanning or using tanning creams. If you are out in the sun for too long, the area could once again become irritated. If you plan on going back for a few more hair removal treatments, they will not be as effective if the skin is burned. Darker skin also will burn more easily as a reaction to the laser.

After your treatments, you can also use creams to assure that the hair does not come back. Vaniqa, for example, is the only FDA-approved cream that removes unwanted facial hair. If after your laser hair removal you still find a stubborn patch of hair (specifically, on an area of your face,) you can use this cream to get rid of the patch.
