ADHD Symptoms in Adults
Are you an adult and concerned that you have attention deficit disorder (ADD)? The first thing you should know is that you aren't alone.
According to World Health Organization estimates, 5% of adults have ADD.
You should know that the symptoms of attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADD, ADHD) can be different in adults than in children.
Research indicates that many adults do not actually have hyperactivity but rather a sense of restlessness or need to constantly be doing something new.
Because most people associate hyperactivity with the condition, this can lead to significant confusion.
The key questions to ask if you are an adult and want to know if you have ADHD are: 1) Are you performing at a level significantly worse than one would expect given your intelligence? 2) Do you have trouble completing the small things at the end of a project when the main stuff is done? 3) Do you find yourself zoning out in the middle of conversations? 4) Do you drive somewhat aggressively or get lost while driving often? 5) Do you often lose things by accident? 6) Do you feel a sense of restlessness and a drive to always be doing something new or different? 7) Did or do you have trouble studying for classes? If you are an adult with ADHD, you may have trouble holding down a job.
You may do very well at a position as long as it is interesting or new, but once the novelty has worn out, find it too boring.
You may end up stuck at a low level position below your capabilities.
