If you are thinking about venturing into entrepreneurship, you are in the right place because you are doing the research about what it takes to be successful. If you already have a business but need some important tips about what it takes to get your business onto the next level, you are also in the right place.

Keys to becoming a successful entrepreneur:
1. Time management

Managing your time is one of the most important pieces of advice because more time may equal more money. Making yourself available will yield more productivity in your business and may positively effect your bottom line. Allocate a specific amount of time for a certain task. As you get more experience you will notice that it takes a shorter amount of time to do specific tasks and that is how you can measure progress. Put distractions aside. As a mother of a toddler, I value my time with my child, but in order to be successful and have productivity, I also must have my business power hours as well.

2. Get organized

This is closely related to time management however to be a successful entrepreneur you must be organized on many levels because the point is to build momentum and keep improving. If you do not know when things will happen then it won't happen. Write down everything in a planner. I personally take it another step by writing a daily action plan before I sleep. My daily action plan contains 2-3 detailed items that I absolutely must complete the next day. Most people have a to-do list that they add things onto everyday while the list gets larger and larger and for me it was ineffective.

3. Idea Journaling

You should be writing down all new ideas in one book. Ideas that are written down are not forgotten and also easy to edit. Your idea might come to you anytime of the day and if you have your idea journal handy then later you will have your idea ready. This advice has been priceless to me. In fact, the ideas of this article were written down in my journal as I was cooking dinner.

4. Setting Goals

Goals should be measurable and have a time frame. You must visualize exact targets to reach in one year for example. A successful entrepreneur has short term and long term goals. I personally break down my short term goals into weekly and monthly goals. Long term goals are quarterly, yearly, and a 3-5 year goal. Goals should also be written down so that you can refer back to them.

5. Never Quit!

As the going gets tough many people in business for themselves, find it easier to simply give up. By nature, we humans are professional quitters. You are always hearing about how someone quit the relationship, quit the gym, quit studying, quit school, quit the job and the list goes on. Always remember that after rainy days the sun comes out in all its brilliance. Resist the natural urge inside to quit and become a successful entrepreneur.
