There are about 200 golf courses in the greater Phoenix area, and, being a golfer, I can often recommend a golf course that suits your game.

You might not want to pay a couple hundred bucks for a round if you are a newer golfer. If your stamina isn't what it used to be, or you are a bit newer to the game, or you just don't want to spend nearly 5 hours playing a round, a short course might be your preference. They also cost less to play than championship courses.

1. Ironwood Golf Course at Sun Lakes

Ironwood is a semi-private, executive 18 hole, par 67 golf course. It's just over 5,000 yards from the championship tees, and there are three tee boxes to choose from and 2 par-5 holes. 2. Rolling Hills Golf Course

Rolling Hills is a municipal course in Tempe. There are two executive 9-hole courses, a driving range, and a pro shop. They have junior rates. The rates are cheaper for Tempe residents than others, but still very reasonable if you don't live in Tempe. It's a par 62, just under 4,000 yards from the back tees. Ten par-3s and no water.More »
