Sync an iPod

• Probably the most useful feature of Apple's Universal Dock is the ability to plug the dock into a PC or Mac via the USB port and sync the iPod to the computer's iTunes software. Syncing transfers music that has been recently acquired to the iPod, as well as movies, podcasts and playlists. Simply plug the dock into the computer's USB port, place the iPod onto the dock and open iTunes, and the syncing process automatically begins.
  
  

Charge an iPod

• There are two ways to charge your iPod with Apple's Universal Dock. The first occurs concurrently while the iPod is syncing with iTunes. USB ports also conduct electricity, and the iPod will automatically charge when placed onto the dock assuming that the dock is plugged in and the computer is on. Another option allows you to charge the iPod without syncing it, by plugging the dock into Apple's USB Power Adapter, which is sold separately.
  
  

Connect to Speakers

• Apple's Universal Dock can connect to speakers via a stereo audio cable. This allows users to play music from an iPod through a home stereo system, provided that the user has a stereo with the necessary analog inputs. The cable is not included with the dock, however, Apple does include a remote control so that users can control the iPod from across a room.
  
  

Connect to a TV

• By purchasing either Apple's Composite AV Cable or Apple's Component AV Cable, users can connect the Universal Dock to a television. Connecting the dock to a television allows users to watch movies or view pictures from an iPod on a television screen. Users can also use either of Apple's AV cables to connect to a stereo, and both cables come with Apple's USB Power Adapter.
  
  

One Size Fits Most

• Apple's Universal Adapter will fit most iPods with the use of a plastic Dock Adapter, which is interchangeable. The Universal Dock comes with several Dock Adapters designed to fit most iPods, including iPod Mini, iPod Classic and iPod Touch. However, users of iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle must buy a specific dock for those particular iPods.
