How to Move a Downdraft Oven
- 1). Slide the oven away from the wall until you can access the electrical cord (and the gas line, if applicable).
- 2). Unplug the electrical plug from the outlet and wrap it around the back of the appliance.
- 3). Locate the shut-off valve for the gas supply hose and turn it off. Locate the metal coupler at the end of the gas supply hose where it connects to the inlet nipple, which protrudes from the back of the oven. Loosen the gas line coupler with a wrench and then pull the coupler off the oven. It is very important that you turn off the gas supply before disconnecting the supply hose. Otherwise, you will allow an uncontrolled flow of gas into your home, which is dangerous. If you smell gas after disconnecting the gas supply line, consult your local fire department for assistance. If you have an all-electric downdraft oven, forgo this step.
- 4). Place a blanket over the front of the downdraft oven. This will protect the oven from damage due to the hand truck.
- 5). Slide the bottom ledge of the hand truck under the front center of the downdraft oven until the vertical supports butt up against the face of the oven.
- 6). Wrap the straps from the ratchet strap around the oven and the hand truck and clip the S-clips located at each end of the straps together. Tighten the ratchet strap with the ratcheting mechanism. This will keep the oven from falling off the hand truck.
- 7). Place your foot against the axle of the hand truck and pull back on the handle to lift the oven off the ground. Pull the hand truck backward to remove the oven and then pull or push the hand truck and oven to your desired location.
- 8). Place your foot over the rear axle of the hand truck for balance and then slowly lower the oven back to the ground. Do not allow the oven to simply fall to the ground, as this could cause damage.
