Whether you're buying a gift for your sister's birthday, anniversary, holiday or "just because," think outside the box of typical presents of wall plaques, t-shirts or figurines. Show your sister what she means to you with a creative gift, easily accomplished with just a few steps, that shows you've taken notice of her interests and hobbies; one she'll remember for a long time.

    Notebook

    • Whether your sister is a student, professional, parent or a combination, give her something stylish to take notes, write grocery lists or simply make journal entries reflecting on the day's events. Create a personalized notebook just for her. Upload a family photo--a gathering of the siblings, a picture of her children or beloved pet-- then stylize the cover with her name in a bright, pretty font. You can also add a special message such as a phrase just between the two of you, birthday or holiday greetings. Add stock artwork to the cover's background with an interest of hers, such as images of kittens, flowers or motorcycles. If she enjoys sketching, you can request that the notebook's pages be blank (instead of ruled) to allow her imagination to run free.

    Blanket

    • If your sister lives in a colder state or is highly sensitive to winter's chill, warm her up with a gift of a blanket. Because of their versatility, you can select something tailored to her sense of decor, interests and personality. Custom blankets may be made from submitting a high-resolution photo; a huge variety of printed fleece blankets are also available not just in every color of the rainbow, but with patterns, animals and cartoon characters. If your gift is for a holiday, consider getting a themed blanket that can be displayed over the couch when not in use. A thinner blanket may be used throughout the year; a heavy, thick blanket can possibly help her lower heating costs during the winter.

    Meal Preparation

    • If your sister lives near an area with one or more 'meal preparation' storefronts, you can combine a gift for her with a fun, bonding experience for both of you. Meal preparation stores are large, open storefronts where people go to prepare large-quantities of meals to take home. The benefit is that all of the ingredients are already there (sometimes already chopped or mixed as required) and there's no cleanup. Store personnel can assist with cooking steps, packaging and requests. Although many of these stores sell pre-packaged meals, consider purchasing your sister a gift certificate to go prepare meals together. The two of you can choose your meals ahead of time so that the store has everything ready, then select a convenient time to go make the food. Some stores offer wine and music for patrons to enjoy while cooking. If your sister is too busy to cook or just doesn't enjoy the prep process, this gift will provide a fun experience with the benefit of a freezer full of ready-to-go meals.
