Cholesterol in your blood can be termed as one of the most beneficial and one of the most dangerous elements in your body. The use and the misuse of cholesterol are determined through the cholesterol range of an individual. It may vary from person to person, depending on their overall health.

The system in which the cholesterol functions

Cholesterol is molecules of fats and proteins which move along the blood stream. They are produced by the liver to help your body function in a healthy manner. It is used to generate cell membranes, steroid hormones, producing bile and vitamins A, D, and E. Cholesterol is also obtained through dietary means. As 80% of cholesterol is manufactured by the liver, the excess of it obtained through foods may cause health related disturbances in your body. The good type of cholesterol is called HDL (high density lipoprotein) and the bad type is called LDL (low density lipoprotein). When the cholesterol range of LDL and HDL is disrupted, it gives rise to a medical disorder known as Hypercholesterolemia. In this condition the level of LDL is elevated and the level of HDL is reduced. This can put you at a risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, stroke, etc. The most simple and effective way of avoiding such drastic health risks is to monitor and control your cholesterol levels promptly. HDL helps your body by removing unwanted cholesterol and sending it back to the liver for restoration. While, LDL gathers and piles up cholesterol plaques around the arterial wall, blocking the smooth blood flow. This blockage can give rise to coronary arterial diseases and other cardiac diseases.
