Signs

• Your cat will usually display outward signs he has been infected with ear mites. An infected cat will often exhibit constant head shaking, excess scratching and a dark odorous ear wax. A veterinary examination is the best way to obtain a specific diagnosis.
  
  

Oil

• Clean your cat's ears with a small amount of oil. Baby, mineral, vegetable or olive oil can be used. The oils used will suffocate the mites. Do not use tea tree oil---it is toxic to cats. Place a small amount of the oil on a cotton ball or swab. Carefully wipe out your cat's ears being careful to not put the cotton swab inside the ear canal. The treatment should continue every other day for six days. You can also use a dropper to place oil drops inside the ears. Massage their ears gently to distribute the oils into the ear canal.
  
  

Yellow Dock Root

• Mix nine drops of Yellow Dock Root Extract with 1 tablespoon of water. Use an eyedropper to put the mixture into your cat's ear. Massage the ear. Repeat every three days for six weeks.
  
  

Green Tea

• Steep green tea for three to four minutes. Let cool and place a few drops into your cat's ears. Green tea is a natural antiseptic. Once the tea is placed in the ears, massage the ears gently to disburse the tea into the ear. Dry with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for a month.
  
  

White Vinegar

• Mix one part vinegar to two parts water and place in the cat's ears. The acidity will kill the mites. If your cat has noticeable sores or irritation, do not use this method as it may sting.
