Parafin Wax Removal
- 1). Turn on your iron. Set it on a temperature setting so it is warm, but not too hot. A hot iron will burn your carpet.
- 2). Cover the wax with paper towels. Place a few sheets around the stain to prevent burning the rest of the carpet.
- 3). Iron over the stain and watch the wax melt into the paper towels. Dispose of the paper towels.
- 4). Replace the paper towels as needed.
- 1). Use a butter knife to scrape off the wax.
- 2). Turn on your iron. Set it to the recommended temperature for the fabric, as listed on the iron or the fabric's care instructions.
- 3). Position your ironing board where you can iron comfortably.
- 4). Put the fabric on the ironing board wrong side up. Make sure the stained section is on the top of the board. Place two or three paper towels on the wax stain.
- 5). Iron over the paper towels. The heat will melt the wax, and the paper towels will absorb it.
- 6). Replace the used paper towels as they absorb the wax.
- 7). Treat the stain with fabric cleaner such as 3M's Scotchgard Fabric & Upholstery Cleaner or Resolve Multi-Fabric & Upholstery Cleaner. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. Rinse the fabric well with cold water.
- 8). Wash the fabric in hot water with laundry detergent. Use bleach if the fabric allows it for dyed wax. If the dye is still there, mix one part rubbing alcohol to two parts water. Pour on the stain. Rinse the fabric with cold water.
- 9). Blot the stain using the fabric cleaner until the stain is completely removed. Rinse the fabric well once the stain is gone with cold water.
- 1). Fill a small plastic bag with ice and place over the wax. Use a kitchen towel to wipe away any water from the wood. This will help harden the wax.
- 2). Scrape the wax up with your fingernails or a plastic utensil.
- 3). Cover any remaining wax with an ink blotter. Iron the ink blotter to help lift the remaining wax. The iron should be set just warm enough to melt the wax. A hot iron could burn the wood.
