What Is a Good Cleaner to Use on Woodwork or Wood Floors?
- Make a wood floor or woodwork cleaner by mixing ¼ cup of liquid dish soap, 2 cups of water, 2 cups of white vinegar and 1 cup of lemon juice into a bucket. Use your hands to mix up the ingredients well. Make a wood polish by mixing equal parts white vinegar and vegetable oil.
- Dip a clean, soft mop or rag into the cleaning solution and wring it out well. Wipe down woodwork with the rag or use the mop to clean the floor, overlapping your mop strokes to ensure no spot is missed. Rinse and wring out your rag or mop frequently. Go over the floor or woodwork with a rag dampened with plain water to rinse, then dry with a clean, soft cloth. After the wood is thoroughly dry, rub a thin layer of the polish over the wood with a clean, dry cloth.
- Avoid leaving any liquid sitting on woodwork or wood floors for any extended time. Use minimal amounts of the cleaning solution or water to rinse the wood. Wring out your rag or mop well so it's only damp rather than dripping wet. Too much exposure to liquids can damage or warp the wood.
