How to Repel Squirrels From Wood
- 1). Purchase either a spray bottle of squirrel repellent or a container of concentrate at your favorite hardware store. If you use the concentrate, you will also need to purchase a sprayer unit (the 1-gallon pump type is cheapest). Mix the concentrate with water and pour into your sprayer. Pump the sprayer to pressurize the tank. Get a ladder handy for those high areas the spray stream cannot reach.
- 2). Spray all the wood around your home and garden that the squirrels find most desirable. The squirrel repellent will now cause the squirrels to dislike these areas, as the repellent typically uses ingredients which remind the squirrels of common predators. Naturally, the squirrels will seek other areas to chew.
- 3). Reapply the squirrel repellent to all areas of wood around your home and garden each season for maximum effectiveness. Reapply after a heavy rain to keep the repellent scent as powerful as possible. Typically, the repellent will not cause an undesirable odor to humans, only to squirrels and other rodents.
