How to Get Rid of Constipation in Dogs
- 1). Get adequate exercise. Begin walking the dog twice a day as this can help the dog to have the ability to have proper bowel movements. Exercise not only allows the dog to maintain a healthy weight but also relieves dog of excess excitement and can be as enjoyable for the dog as the owner.
- 2). Provide the constipated dog with a healthy, proper diet. Never feed the dogs table foods, especially foods like flour, sugar, rice, dairy and high-protein foods. These foods can cause constipation and should be avoided.
- 3). Allow the constipated dog to eat dried fruit such as figs, dates, raisins and plums. These fruits can ease the constipation. Fruits can become a daily part of the dog's diet to maintain a constipation-free lifestyle.
- 4). Add two teaspoons of bran to the dog's food. This will add moisture to the stool and will also soften the stool. This can be done twice a day. For larger buildup of stool, a teaspoon of mineral oil can be added to the dog's food. The mineral oil will also soften the hardened stool.
- 5). Keep the dog's food moistened. This is another way to alleviate the dog's constipation.
