Nose Sore Tips
- Hydrogen peroxide is an over-the-counter solution that works as an antiseptic, reducing the pain and duration of most cuts and sores. You can purchase hydrogen peroxide at your local drugstore or grocery store. Make a solution of one part hydrogen peroxide and one part water in a small cup. Drench a cotton swab in the solution and place it on your sore for one minute. You will see the solution bubble up and turn white around the sore. This means that the solution is working. Place the solution on the afflicted area three times a day until the sore is gone.
- Benzocaine is a topical anesthetic used to locally numb small areas. It is used for numbing toothaches, canker sores and cold sores. You can place a gel or cream containing benzocaine directly on the nose sore to prevent pain and irritation, especially if you need to blow your nose. Wash the area with antibacterial soap and water, then dry thoroughly. Place a pea-sized amount of benzocaine gel or cream on the tip of a cotton swab and press it against the afflicted area for 30 seconds. The gel or cream will work to numb the area for about an hour. Apply once every few hours, or as often as directed on the bottle.
- Petroleum jelly has no numbing or pain-relieving properties, but it creates a barrier to protect your nose sore from getting more irritated. This is especially useful if you are blowing your nose often or you are attempting to cover your nose sore. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly, which you can purchase at your local drugstore or grocery store. Add translucent face powder on top of the petroleum jelly, then apply makeup as usual. Reapply every time your sore feels dry.
