How to Decorate With Pumpkins Without Making Jack-o-Lanterns
- 1). Change colors. Orange may not be your desired color to decorate with, but a good way to get around the orange or green colors that pumpkins come with naturally is to use a little imagination. Wrapping the pumpkin in colored cellophane can serve as a good way to change the pumpkins color if a safe paint or dye is not available. You can use staples or tape to hold the cellophane in place on the skin of the pumpkin.
- 2). Gather various sizes. Smaller pumpkins can fit in places that a larger pumpkin may not be able to. You may also be able to use larger pumpkins to fill a larger space. Either way, having various sizes of pumpkins on hand will give you more choice as how to decorate without making jack-o-lanterns.
- 3). Dress your window or table. Smaller pumpkins are perfect as a window seal dressing. Place a few smaller pumpkins in the window seal as a decoration. Be sure to turn them every few days or so though to prevent fading on one side only. You may also use pumpkins as a centerpiece or in a fruit arrangement of some sort.
- 4). String them together. Poking holes in the stem of smaller pumpkins may allow them to be strung together and hung from trees or rafters. Twine is a good natural look to go with the harvest theme. Poke a hole in the stem using a safety pen or nail and put the string or twine through the hole to string them together.
- 5). Add some props. Arranging your pumpkins in the yard in a wagon or wheelbarrow is a classic way to decorate with pumpkins. You may also add some hay or straw to embellish the scene. Placing the colored or natural pumpkins throughout the yard will serve as a good decoration. Add props such as a hoe or a straw hat.
- 6). Scoop them out. Pumpkins can also be scooped out and used as a decorative bowl for a party if filled with fruit or any other type of filler. If using the scooped-out rind of a pumpkin as a punch bowl, be sure that you have a punch bowl that will fit inside the scooped-out pumpkin. This will protect the integrity of the punch and the pumpkin at the same time. The same can be done with dip.
