    Scholarships for Freshmen

    • Louisiana State University offers various scholarships geared specifically to first-year students. Both resident and nonresident freshmen can apply for the Chancellor's Alumni Scholars award, which awards 10 freshmen per year total exemption from tuition and a stipend for study overseas.

Nonresident freshmen can apply for the Flagship Scholars Award, which provides $13,000 per school year as of April 2011 for students who scored well on their ACT or SAT tests and who earned higher than a 3.0 GPA in high school.

    Transfer-Student Scholarships

    • Students transferring to LSU can take advantage of a number of scholarships designed specifically for them. The Tiger Transfer Award is offered to all transfer students to LSU, and is distributed based on the total funding for the year and the number of applicants in the pool.

Louisiana State University's Senior College scholarships are offered in varying amounts to students transferring into specific degree programs. Each academic college offers its own set of scholarships for students transferring into degree programs within that college. The LSU College of Agriculture, for example, provides scholarship funding to transfer students who are not receiving any four-year college awards. The College of Business, Education and Human Development, as another example, offers a range of needs-based scholarships funded by successful alumni, including the B. E. Tabarlet Scholarship and the Don Wilcox Scholarship. Again, amounts of scholarships are based upon the current fund pools for specific scholarships and the number of students applying.

    Scholarships for Current Students

    • LSU provides a range of scholarship opportunities for current students as well. The LSU Foundation funds a variety of scholarships aimed at students in specific degree programs. Amounts for continuing scholarships are based on the needs of individual applicants and the total funding pool for the academic year. In order to qualify for continuing-student scholarships, students must be enrolled full time, earning at least 24 credit hours per year and maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

    Specific Current-Student Scholarships

    • A number of scholarships exist to serve current students who meet strict criteria. Students enrolled in the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program, for example, can tap into an ROTC scholarship in conjunction with LSU. Children of deceased LSU faculty members may receive an award to cover all school fees. Under Louisiana Legislative Act 353, children of deceased or permanently disabled police and fire officers receive an award exempting them from any college tuition whatsoever.

    Application Process

    • Scholarship applications are handled through the Admissions Office at LSU. First-year students are automatically considered applicants for a range of university scholarships when their admissions applications are accepted. The same holds true for transfer students. Students can speak with admissions representatives directly for more information on applying for specific scholarships, or to check on the results of various applications.

Current LSU students can apply for scholarships through LSU's Personal Access Web Services (PAWS) system, the school's online student services center, under the financial services section.
