When Your Nesting Instincts Kick In

Never let it be said that humans are not part of the animal world.
All we need for proof is to watch a human mother as her time is drawing near.
She will show signs of nesting instincts as well as any animal you have ever seen in the wild.
Just as a fox will make will make sure that her den is well hidden, safe from prying eyes, and thoroughly lined with fluff for the comfort of her cubs, so too will a human woman create a safe and comfortable environment for her new baby.
Now granted, a human mother will not go dig a hole in the ground and collect bits of fluff to line it with, but even though the human mother collects her "fluff" at the mall, the purpose behind the actions is the same.
When an impending mother goes to the mall and buys a crib, it is not just because she wants to keep up with the Jones' and absolutely must have that beautiful crib.
It is much more important for her to know that her offspring will have a comfortable and safe place to sleep.
Because she will no longer be carrying her baby with her at all times, as she does while pregnant.
And since she will no longer have complete and total control over what her offspring, she wants to make sure that they are as safe as possible.
After insuring that safe haven for baby, mommy can then turn her attention to comfort.
Comfort items can come in many forms.
The rocking chair is part of the comfort team, so mommy can rock baby and croon a lullaby while feeding.
That brings comfort to baby and to mommy.
Clothing is another comfort item.
Mommy needs to make sure that baby has clothing items that feel soft and fit well, that there are no tags to poke baby, and that the fabric will not rub or chafe the babies tender skin.
The same principle needs to apply to the babies bedding needs.
Have you ever known of a newborn baby that was not swaddled in blankets? Of course not, it is a comfort ploy for baby to feel comfortable and to help them adjust to their strange new world.
Now comes the part where humans differ from animals.
After making sure that safety and comfort are taken care of, and animals job of preparing for her young is done.
Not so with humans! Humans have an additional need, the need for beauty.
While the fox doesn't care where the fluff came from or what color it is as long as it is warm and comfortable, a human mother does indeed care! The blankets need to be of the proper color, and the design imprinted on the blanket is definitely important.
Cute little baby animals, the alphabet, or other baby designs is essential.
The clothing needs to be not only functional, but fashionable as well.
Little girls need lace, and little boys need to have miniature big boys imitations.
So when your nesting instinct kicks in, go ahead and indulge yourself in getting that nursery ready.
Paint and paper the walls, set up the nursery furniture and position it just so.
Get the clothing ready, all the little nightgowns, diapers, day wear and shoes.
Don't forget the head gear and all the cleaning supplies that are made just for baby.
Get the blankets and the burp towels washed and ready for use.
Because when baby comes, you want him or her to be not only safe and comfortable but fashionable as well.
