Profoto is a lighting equipment manufacturer that provides stable and effective equipment suited for all levels of professional and amateur photographers and filmmakers. No matter what type of Profoto lighting product you are using, certain techniques can get the best lighting out the product. - Facial lighting techniques highlight the facial features of the subject without whiting them out. This can be done with the ProRing Diffuser, which is attached directly to the ProRing or ProRing 2 circular light. This light is attached to the actual camera. Attach the ProRing Diffuser directly to the ProRing light to soften the light given by the ProRing. When the light flashes, the diffuser casts a soft glow directly on the subject without creating a harsh bright effect. This technique is ideal for studio portrait lighting, as well as for capturing interior spaces and static objects. The diffuser allows photographers to get as close as one foot to the subject without whiting out the subject.
- Fashion photographs typically feature a glossy appearance on the subject. The effect is created through the use of reflectors. The Profoto Giant Reflector 240 measures eight feet in diameter and produces a soft light that is still strong enough to illuminate small details in fabric while smoothing facial textures. Set up the reflector at least six feet away from the subject to illuminate the photograph in even-toned light. Since the reflector features 20 separation rods, it casts an even amount of light onto a subject, which makes it perfect for illuminating complex fabric designs and action shots.
- Landscape photography can be difficult to light, because it requires a large scene to be properly lit. The ProFoto Cine Reflector is a high output lamp that produces a range of light from 35 to 105 degrees. This lamp casts an even beam of light over a wide space to effectively illuminate a scene. If you are shooting an indoor scene, such as a tabletop setup, position the light at least eight feet away from the subject, and use the reflectors, also known as barn doors, to illuminate either a portion or the entire scene.
