How to Install an RCA Crimp Connector on an RG59 Cable
- 1). Cut off the length of RG59 cable for your purposes. The RG59 stripper has a wire cutter on it in addition to a crimper tool. Use considerable pressure with the wire cutter to slice through the coaxial cable because of how it is constructed; take your time. Use the RG59 stripper to remove an inch from each end of the freshly cut wire. This simultaneously strips the outer insulation and inner insulated layer. A normal stripper cannot reach the inner insulated layer at all and might damage the outer wire layer. Brush away any leftover wire crumbs once the end is stripped.
- 2). Slide the RCA crimp connector onto each end of the freshly stripped wire ends. Slide the connectors all the way onto the wire ends; the connectors stop when the wires hit the inner stops. You may need to twist the connector a little bit to budge it onto the end. The stripper has a crimping tool on it. Use the crimper part of the stripper to squeeze the inner end of the RCA connectors down. Do this for each connector on the wire. This makes the connectors anchor themselves onto the wire, becoming inseparable. Tug the connector a little bit just to be sure.
- 3). Plug the newly made RG59 cable into the RG59 ports to test the connections. If it is a video cable, there should be no fuzziness or scan lines on the display. If it is an audio connection, there should be no static. Flex the wire by hand to test for any wire breaks. If there is a break, then the picture or sound will cut out whenever the wire is bent.
