Carnival Spirit Cruise Tips

    Packing

    • Staterooms on the Spirit, although among the most spacious at sea, are not superfluous. Ask your room steward for extra hangers as only a few are provided in the wardrobe. Organize your bathroom toiletries by packing a small over-the-door shoe holder. The small pockets are ideal for storage and keep the bathroom and vanity orderly. Pack a power for additional outlets, and bring an alarm clock to keep your schedule. Inside cabins are very dark when the lights are off, so bring a nightlight to help you navigate the room in the middle of the night.

    Dining

    • With no shortage of meal options, the Carnival Spirit has something to offer everyone. Try the 24-hour pizzeria for an anytime snack, or stop by the soft-serve machines that are open all day. Guests can dine at scheduled times in one of the two main dining rooms, but be sure to check out the buffets that offer everything from deli service to sushi. Save room for the midnight themed buffets.

    Activities

    • Take part in the many activities available on the ship. Peruse "Capers," the ship's newsletter, each day to plan your must list. Art auctions, casino events, headline shows, special performances, games and tours are offered each day, and many of the events are free to guests. Each evening you can enjoy a show in the main lounge, either before or after dinner, before heading out to a club or lounge to dance the night away.

    Tipping

    • Gratuities of $10 per day per guest are automatically charged to your room. You can adjust the charge or remove it at the purser's desk if you prefer to tip with cash. Drink orders include a 15 percent gratuity.

    Bargain Hunting

    • Carnival offers affordable, low rates when you take advantage of the Early Saver program, offered when you purchase a cruise in advance. In 2009, rates under $50 per person per day could be found on some cruises. As part of the Early Saver guarantee, Carnival will lower the cost of your cruise or give you an on-board credit for the difference in the case of a price drop on the category and itinerary you booked. The one drawback is that Early Saver cruises are non-refundable, so you should purchase travel insurance to cover unforeseen events.
