Best Safe Ways to Lose Weight

101 6
You're reading this because you want to either lose that extra pounds, or help someone you care about to lose weight. You have come to the right place. My name is Julie Mckinney, and I've grown up with people who were (not any more) overweight including me. Out of frustration and tired of listening to my own complaints, about 3 years ago on May 1st, I decided enough was enough, and I spent 3 months of research, talked to medical specialists, personal trainers, and setup a weight loss plan for myself. I wanted to lose 40 pounds in 5 months.

I didn't want to do it alone because it would be too easy for me to give up. I started a "Lose It and Keep It " club where I worked, and with 12 people signed up, I began documenting our successful journey. As of today, not only 10 out of 12 people (2 quit after 2 months) have lost his/her own ideal weight, after 3 years, we are still able to maintain that ideal weight.

So my friend, I'm not you and I don't know how much weight you need to lose, but I know it's possible to lose it and keep it under control if you have the right plan and people to support you. Whether it's 10 pounds or 100 pounds, you can do it, and never, never, never give up!

I want to help because I know how important it is to be able to look yourself in the mirror and like what you see. You'll walk in a room (any room) feeling good and confident. When someone looks at you, you will know it's a compliment and nothing else. Your eyes sparkle and you're smiling because you have energy and people around you can pick up that energy also. Would you like to know my successful plan? I'd be glad to share with you. Here's a little peek of the plan to see if you are interested.

I started a small group at work with colleagues who wanted to lose weight. Everyone put in $5 (we agreed on the dollar amount). Every Monday morning we weigh in to see who lost the most weight, and the winner gets the $ pot.

With 10 out of 12 (2 people back out) successful documentation, I'll share 5 people's weight loss journey with you in my website. Journeys from me, Lucy, Jim, Emma, and Christy are all listed next to HomePage. Each one of us shared a personalized plan and a successful journey to share with you. I hope you find one that suits you and begin your own "Lose It and Keep It" successful journey. Post your comments or questions in "Contact Us" and we will respond quickly.

My goal was to lose 40 pounds in 5 months. I didn't want to do it alone so I reached out. In May 2009, I was working for a company in Chicago and I had a pretty good relationship with my boss, who was supportive and he encouraged me to take it to the company level. I talked to the Human Resources Director, Lisa, who not only welcomed the idea but also joined our club.

I started by sending out an email to all employees and expressed my eagerness to invite people who wanted to lose weight. I showed them my plan when 20 people responded:

• A chart for everyone to setup an ideal weight they wanted to lose.

• Exercise they could participate.

• Shared healthy diet meals.

• Healthy snacks in between meals.

• Encouraging club members.

• Each member contributed $2 to a pot we setup for the winner, and every Monday morning we all weighted in. The one who lost the most weight got the grand money. The $ reward was motivation and so was winning.

• I also sent out an email after the weigh in to entire company announcing the weekly winner. The winner got cheers and encouragement from the colleagues and even the President of the company.

Losing weight is a goal for many people and they make this goal for many different reasons. Besides the obvious health benefits, some might want to fit into stylish clothes, look good for special events, or hold off some of the effects of aging on your body parts.

For me, I wanted to look good on those size 4 tight blue jeans. I bought 2 pairs of GAP size 4 jeans and hanging them outside of my closet; every night before I closed my eyes, I visualized wearing those tight jeans. WHY DO YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT? I asked every club member that question and encouraged them to visualize they were already doing it.

12 people out of 20 signed up, and we named it "Lose It and Keep It" club.

Before we got started, I handed out a survey and these were the questions:

1. How many meals do you eat a day?

2. How many times do you snack in between meals a day?

3. What kind of snacks do you keep in your drawers?

4. Do you eat when you are stressed?

5. Do you snack when you watch TV?

6. How much time does it take for you to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner?

7. What kind of desert do you have after dinner?

8. Do you usually finish your plate even though you are full?

Every one prepared an individual meal plan - of course we shared and made suggestions to help prepare healthy and delicious meals. May was from China so she handed out some delicious, nutritious and low calories Chinese recipes. Jim liked to cook and he shared some tasted Italian recipes with us. Every week, everyone had choices of tasted meal recipes to choose and we were always gathering new ideal to share.

It was a very organized and promising club. We were all very excited to get started.

I hope this interests you, my friend, and continue to part 2 of my journey.

My Journey to Weight Loss - Part 2

After we name the club, "Lose It and Keep It", I sent out an email to our 12 members and laid out the following plan:

Step 1, we picked a quiet and private room in the company to have lunch 3 times a week. The other 2 days we left it to self discipline.

Step 2, when we met for our 1 hour lunch break, the first 20 minutes we took turns to talk about what we had for breakfast and dinner plans.

Step 3, we dedicated 30 minutes to eat lunch, not a minute less. It was difficult for many members since we all had so much to do both at work and home, we learned to eat fast. What we didn't realize was that the faster we eat, the slower we metabolize.

I used to eat when I was hungry without any discipline. Have you noticed that a lot of Americans can finish a meal in less than 15 minutes? Some people can eat a hamburger in less than 5 minutes? We were rushed when we were growing up to eat fast so we won't be late for school, for whatever we were rushed to do, we were rushed to eat fast. To change that, we had to undo the habit.

• At lunch time, we gathered at a private room, and each one of us brought our own lunch. For the 1st 15 minutes we shared what we had for breakfast, what we brought for lunch and what was for dinner. Breakfast is an important meal, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, skip breakfast. When you skipped breakfast, you will find ways to satisfy the hunger before lunch. We had 1 hour for lunch so for the next 30 minutes, we take time to eat, chew and swallow the lunch we had. The rest of the time was for meditation.

• I encouraged taking at least 30 minutes to eat lunch. To encourage taking time to enjoy food, I played the CD from Eckhart Tolle, "The Power of Now". Tolle talked about the value of enjoying your food and learned to taste each bite, chew and swallow. It takes time to change a habit but it could be done if you have the tools to make the change. It took about 2 months for all 12 members to get into the habit of looking at the food, bringing it to the mouth, smelling, biting, chewing, tasting and then swallowing.

• Everyone also had an opportunity to share thoughts about the progress or struggles, and received encouragements from the club.

We began on May 18th, 2009. When I weighed in on June 18, 2009, I had lost 8 pounds. 32 more pounds to go. I was the winner on week 3 for losing 2 pounds.

The following month was difficult for many of us. 1 person dropped out, and I only lost 5 pounds. 27 more pounds to lose.

It was getting tougher to lose weight, so I decided to get a workout program. 5 people joined me and twice a week we spent 30 minutes "power walk" after work.

The rest was history. I lost 40 pounds in 5 months. Some of the "Lose It and Keep It" members lost more than they had expected. By the end of our journey, the company President presented a special recognition award to our club, and encouraged that "Lose It and Keep It" would become a part of the company health benefit.

Stay fit my friend,

Julie McKinney
