Guide Review - Maroon 5 - "Moves Like Jagger" featuring Christina Aguilera

Pop singles that seem tossed off to capitalize on the unexpected success of a TV show don't deserve to be this good. But then Maroon 5's last album Hands All Over was one of the most underrated of 2010. Maroon 5's Adam Levine has become an unexpected pop culture household name due to his judging and mentoring role on NBC's surprise hit The Voice. The funky, whistle driven melody here is loose, light, and irresistibly funky. The punchy guest vocal from fellow judge Christina Aguilera is simply icing on the cake. There is a real vocal chemistry between Aguilera and Levine.

While somewhat light and fluffy, the center of the lyrics on "Move Like Jagger" is a clever comparison.

Who wouldn't hope they could impress with body movement like the legendary Mick Jagger? He is a pop culture icon that instantly brings familiar images to mind. There is the occasional edge in the lyrics that reminds us of the songwriting touch of Adam Levine. The imagery of "take me by the tongue," and "look into my eyes and I'll own you" reveal an edginess not present in purely light pop songs.

"Moves Like Jagger" is an outstanding summer song. It is light, danceable, and would sound great in the car with the top down. "Moves Like Jagger" nearly instantly went to #1 on the iTunes digital songs chart and is now battling for the top with Katy Perry and LMFAO. Whether pop radio takes serious notice or not, this is an outstanding addition to your summer pop playlist. The Benny Blanco production easily stands on its own outside of the context of The Voice.
