How to Put an Older Above Ground Pool Together
- 1). Choose a flat area. Determine the size of your swimming pool and find a flat area free of sticks, stones, or other debris where you can put the pool together without having to fight your way around shrubs or other obstacles.
- 2). Assemble the frame. Put a support paver under every connection so the pool has a firm foundation. If the pool has been well cared for, assembly may be easy, but for an older pool, you may need to lubricate nuts and bolts to get them to tighten properly.
- 3). Assemble the walls. Unroll the walls all around and fit them in the bottom of the frame. If you have help, this step goes more easily.
- 4). Prepare for the liner. Something should go between the liner and rough ground. In the case of an older pool, using the old liner as a protective barrier not only protects your new liners against tears and punctures, but also provides additional waterproofing. If the old liner is still in good shape, soft dirt works fine.
- 5). Install the liner. Installing the liner works best on a warm day (75 degrees or more) so the liner has more flexibility and stretch than on a cooler day. Remove as many wrinkles as possible. Add a small amount of water to push the liner against the walls. At this point, you also can ease out many small wrinkles.
- 6). Put on the finishing pieces, install a ladder if needed, and fill your pool the rest of the way.
