How to Insulate Roll Formed Aluminum Pans
- 1). Screw the metal eves for the aluminum pan roof in place before installing the insulation. The eves help hold the insulation in place under the roof so that it does not blow away before the roof is installed over it.
- 2). Start to lay the insulating foam sheets onto the roof. Rest the short ends of the foam against the sides of the eves at the bottom edges of the roof frame. Lay the sheets close together with as little gap between the sheets as possible.
- 3). Cut the last sheet to the correct size if it overlaps the edge of the roof. Measure the remaining roof space, then cut the foam to the correct size using a circular saw. After cutting, lay the sheet in place.
- 4). Lay as many sheets as necessary to cover all sides of the roof. It is likely that you will have to have at least two sets of foam sheets standing on top of each other to reach the top ridge line of the roof.
- 5). Tape the foam pieces together along the seams after laying all of the foam insulation. Apply a line of 2-inch thick metal tape to each foam seam. Do not tape the top or bottom edges of the insulation. The roof pan panels will provide enough protection along the top and bottom edges.
