    • 1). To make glass cleaner, combine 1 quart water with 3 to 4 tablespoons of white vinegar. This creates a basic glass cleaner. If you need to cut grease, add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of dish detergent. Adding 1 to 2 cups of rubbing alcohol aids in evaporation and leaves less streaking. It also keeps the mixture from freezing. Cut down the base amount of water to 3 cups if you add alcohol. Put in spray bottles and use.

    • 2). All-Purpose Cleaner is made by mixing 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1 tablespoon vinegar and 2 tablespoons ammonia with 1 quart warm water. Let baking soda dissolve and pour mixture into spray bottles.

    • 3). Baking soda makes a great abrasive cleanser when used alone with a little warm water, or by mixing with vinegar or lemon juice. Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with enough dish detergent to make a cleansing liquid. Cut a lemon in half, and dip it into the baking soda. The lemon acts as a scrubbing pad to clean off stubborn stains from dishes and counters. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda and 1 cup white vinegar into the toilet bowl. Allow it to fizz for a few minutes, then swish with a bowl brush.

For the kitchen sink, pour vinegar and soda mixture down the drain, then plug and let sit for five minutes. Remove the plug and flush with a gallon of hot water.

    • 4). A simple grout cleaner can be made with 1 cup 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and 2 cups water.

Combine in a spray bottle and label "grout cleaner." Spray on grout where mold tends to grow. Allow to sit for about half an hour, then rinse. Use a scrub brush for stubborn areas before rinsing.

    • 5). For wood furniture polish, you need 1 cup olive oil or jojoba oil and 1/2 cup vinegar or lemon juice.

(Use lemon juice if you prefer the lemony scent to vinegar). Furniture polish is meant to penetrate the wood, sustaining and keeping it from drying out. Use a soft cloth when applying cleaner or polish to avoid scraping natural wood finish.

To make a wood cleaner, increase vinegar to 2 cups and mix with 1 cup olive oil. Pour into 1 quart warm water. This works on all types of wood.
