In early summer, rich purple is still present in the flower heads of alliums, while gorgeous blue is possible with tall camasses, which emerge from the borders and grass lands.
Later blues are rarer, but they are still possible with freesias, anemones and tritely.
The mid to late summer range of tubers, rhizomes, bulbs and corms is dazzling.
Dahlias and gladioli are available in dozens of brilliant hues, ranging from red, yellow, orange, pink and purple to white, while begonias and cannas light up the border with fiery yellows, oranges and reds.
Knapp add another tier to the drama, and with their long tapering racemes provide a rich source of color.
Tall growing lilies can be supported with a special metal stake and detachable hoop.
The seed of snake's head fritillary will be ready for collection in midsummer.
They should be sown in a propagating box.
You will need to deadhead begonia blooms regularly to encourage production of flowers.
In spring, this is a really wonderful season for bulbs and corms of all kinds, and there is a multitude of daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, dog's tooth violet, fritillaries, irises, snowflake, grape hyacinths and trilliums coming into flower in grasslands, borders and containers.
While you are enjoying them all, now is the time to search out your favorite colors for planting next autumn.
Slugs and snails adore succulent growth and will attack the young foliage on tulips and alliums, lilies and daffodil flowers.
General garden cleanliness is important in keeping the slug and snail population at bay and some gardeners use chemicals against certain pests with varying degree of success.
Rabbits, mice and birds are nightmares as far as many bulbous plants are concerned, greedily eating off all the new shoots or flowers.
Rabbits fortunately, won't touch daffodils.
Buried wire fences can stop rabbits, but there is little you can do to frighten off birds, mice and squirrels.
