How do I Remove Rusts Stains on the Floor?
- 1). Scrape as much rust from the carpet as possible using the back of a butter knife.
- 2). Mix together equal parts distilled white vinegar and salt. Dip the corner of a cloth in the mixture. Gently apply the vinegar-salt mixture to the rust stain and allow to sit on the carpet for an hour. Blot the area with the cloth until the stain is gone.
- 3). Create a paste with one part water and three 3 parts cream of tartar, if the vinegar and salt solution does not remove the stain. Spread the paste over the rust and let it sit for two hours. Use a soft bristle brush to loosen the paste from the carpet and remove with a vacuum.
- 4). Fill a clean spray bottle with two cups of warm water. Add one tbsp. of ammonia and gently swirl the spray bottle to mix the contents together. Spray the rust-stained carpet with the mixture and allow to soak for 10 minutes. Blot the carpet with a cloth dampened with cool water until the stain is gone.
- 1). Fill a pot with 1/2 gallon of water. Place the pot on the stove and bring the water to a boil. Add one packet of unsweetened lemonade mix and stir with a wooden spoon. Pour the lemonade onto the rust stain and scrub the concrete with a stiff bristle brush. Rinse the concrete with cold water.
- 2). Saturate the rust stained concrete with white vinegar or apple cider vinegar if the lemonade solution doesn't work. Allow the vinegar to work into the rust for several minutes. Scrub the area with a stiff bristle brush adding more vinegar if needed. Continue in this manner until the stain is gone.
- 3). Dampen the rust stain with distilled water if the vinegar mixture fails to remove the stain. Create a thick paste using all-purpose flour and a commercial iron-removing product. Spread the paste 1/4 inch on top of the rust stain. Place a piece of plastic wrap over top the paste and secure the edges with tape. Allow the paste to dry completely for 12 to 24 hours. Remove the plastic and scrape the paste off the concrete using a paint scraper. Rinse the area clean and repeat the process until you have removed the rust.
