All About Sports Betting Systems

Whether you bet on sports for fun or profit, you have a betting system. It may be nothing more than picking your favorite team and laying down a few bucks on them. Or you may use one of those 97% miracles sold by somebody claiming to be John Morrison.

I suspect that many sports gamblers have no system at all. And many of the ones who think they have systems really only have a part of a system. So what, exactly, is a sports betting system?

A good sports betting system does two things. First, it is a handicapping tool that should be designed around advantageous situations that occur in whatever sport it is you like to bet.

The situations used in the 97% systems are all three game scenarios where if you pick one winner out of the three you win the bet. You can not achieve anywhere near 97% accuracy on a game by game basis, but it is not that difficult with progressive betting.

Still, there are situations that can lead to an advantage of a couple of percentage points in your favor. All you need is a five percent increase over coin flipping and you can win a lot of money.

A good system will make it easy to find your advantages by using the same parameters week after week.

The other thing a good betting system does is control the money and wagering strategy. Even before a game meets your criteria for betting, the bet amount was predetermined. No game within the system has any more potential value than any other game.

The best sports betting systems use straight betting. Consistent betting is the key to consistent winning. Progressive betting schemes can make the chance of losing smaller, but the amounts lost will be much higher. For example, it takes about 8 wins to offset a single loss when using a progression of three.

A commonly asked question is where to look for the best betting system? There are so many options it is hard for most people to know where to start. Sadly, many see the advertisements for miracle betting systems and end up with grossly misleading ideas of success. You may have set the bar a bit higher for yourself than it needs to be.

My point is, there is no need to chase the dream of a perfect betting system. It does not exist, and a lot of people have gone broke by believing they did. So don't listen to anyone who says they win 97% of the time. They are trying to sell you something you do not need by promising what they can not deliver.

Others are a little more realistic in their assessments and can provide a lot of good advice. There are hundreds of web sites where you can communicate directly with other bettors. You can subscribe to some handicapping newsletter and get picks sent in the email. But the availability of too much information becomes a roadblock on the road to success.

The problem for most people is a lack of consistency. Progress can never be measured because they always start from scratch every week. Different situations are bet from within the same bankroll, so when it disappears there is nothing to learn from the loss.

You must have a consistent handicapping and betting system. It must be used for consistent handicapping of game situations, as well as controlling the wagering of the games it applies to.

Because of the volume of information available, most people are also under the false assumption that they only need one betting system and they can strike it rich. The truth is, a good betting system that gives you a true advantage will not produce enough games for you to get rich.

For example, I have a great NFL Football system that wins well over 60% for me, year after year. But I only get about ten games a year out of it. So I have 4 others that I will go to until I have reached the 10 games a week I like to bet during the season. Each system starts the season with its own bankroll and is managed like a business on its own.

So what, really, is a sports betting system? It is a business plan for sports betting that allows you to operate with a profit over the course of a season. How you build and manage that plan is what will determine if you succeed or fail in the sports betting business.
