• Fluorouracil cream is a chemotherapy drug that interferes with a cell's ability to divide by affecting its metabolism and damaging the RNA or DNA that tells the cell how to copy itself. • Fluorouracil cream is used to treat solar keratoses or actinic keratoses. These are red, scaly patches that develop on sun-exposed skin. They grow over time and can eventually turn into basal cell carcinoma. Basal cell carcinoma could also be caused by genetics. • Viral and genital warts are caused by the human papillomavirus. These warts can be spread by direct contact and can spread to other parts of the body via scratching and then touching an unaffected area. • Disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis (DSAP) can be treated with Fluorouracil cream. DSAP is an inherited skin condition that results in dry patches on the arms and legs. The spots that can sometimes develop from this disease are sometimes confused with solar keratoses; the difference is that solar keratoses usually occur on the face and hands.
