How to Remove Rust From VCT Tile
- 1). Dry mop your VCT floor to remove moisture. The hard water drips may simply be sitting on the surface; see if you can pick them up with simple mopping. If not, continue.
- 2). Wear protective goggles, gloves and long sleeves when working with acid. Mix oxalic acid and water into a five percent solution. The acid is available at hardware and home improvement stores as a powder; follow manufacturer's mixing instructions.
- 3). Soak a sponge or clean white cloth in the acidic solution. Saturate the rust stain with the solution from your applicator. Once the entire area is covered, allow the solution to sit on the surface for five minutes.
- 4). Wipe away the acidic solution with clean, cool water. Wash the area with an all-purpose floor cleaner to remove the acid. While it worked, the acid reduced or eliminated the rust stain. Inspect the area and reapply more acid, with appropriate working time, if necessary until the stain is completely gone.
- 5). Mop the entire floor with an all-purpose, alkaline floor cleaner to remove residual acidic solution.
