    Invitations

    • Send invitation-filled baskets lined with red-and-white checkered cloth to guests. Invite them to attend the fairy tale event of the year. On a piece of card stock, include the time, date, location, a phone number to verify their attendance, as well as any baby registry information. Tie the invitation around a jar of preserves to mimic items that could have been in Little Red Riding Hood's basket to grandma. An inexpensive alternative is to write the baby shower information on the front page of a fairy tale book. You can find fairy tale books at dollar and discount stores. Use a variety of fairy tales, such as "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Three Little Pigs," "Sleeping Beauty" and "Goldilocks and the Three Bears."

    Decorations

    • Hang signs which say, "And they lived happily ever after," "Once upon a time" and "a lovely daughter (son) was born." Frame and hang the first page of different fairy tales on the wall or place them on tables in the party room. Attach helium-filled balloons to chair backs and drape a 10-foot long, wrist-thick braid of yarn through a window to mimic Rapunzel's hair. Make conversation bubbles and write "Too soft," "Too hard" and "Just right" on them before placing on different chairs in the party room.

    Food

    • The food at a baby shower plays an integral role in the shower's decoration. People will be drawn to the tables holding the presents and the food. Create names for each fairy tale-inspired dish you serve. Offer small sausages wrapped in bagel dough, miniature apple tarts and vegetable and fruit trays. Make chicken salad sandwiches and use cookie cutters to shape them into small feet and hands. Make a green frog prince drink by combining lemon-lime soda with lime sherbet in a punch bowl. Also serve bottles of water, diet soda and lemonade. Finish the punch by placing a gummy frog in it or next to the punch bowl.

    Games

    • Create baby shower games based on fairy tales. Fill a bowl with frozen peas and mix in a handful of dried peas. Blindfold guests as they take their turn. Set a timer to 30 seconds. Tell the guests to find as many dried peas as possible before the time runs out. The person who finds the most peas in honor of the "Princess and the Pea" wins a prize.

Pass out paper and pencils. Ask party-goers to list fairy tales. The person with the most fairy tales after one minute receives a magic wand and wins the status of fairy godmother.
