How to Install a No-Climb Fence
- 1). Choose a location to install the first bracing assembly. Bracing assemblies need installing in corners, beginnings and ends of fence lines.
- 2). Use a post-hole digger to dig a 3 1/2-foot deep hole for the post. Shovel a 6-inch layer of gravel into the bottom of the hole to help with drainage.
- 3). Place a fence post vertically in the post-hole. Adjust the post until it is level and straight. Mix a batch of quick-drying concrete following the package instructions. Brace the post to keep it level while you pour the concrete around the post. Allow the concrete to dry.
- 4). Place a garden stake in the ground to mark the location for installation of the next bracing assembly. Tie a piece of string to the garden stake. Tie the loose end of the string to the first post. This will ensure the fence line is straight.
- 5). Install a second post to use for the bracing assembly, 8 feet away from the first. Use the string as a guide to keep this post in line with the first. Install this post in the same method as the first.
- 6). Measure and mark a location 1 foot from the top of each of the posts. Drill a hole with a 3/8-drill bit through the marked location on each post. Place a 10-inch long bracing pin through one of the holes.
- 7). Mark a location in the middle of both ends of the post. Drill a 6-inch deep hole through each marked location. Position the bracing post horizontally between the two posts. Line up one of the holes in the post over the pin that is sticking out of the post. Line the other end of the bracing post up with the hole in the other post. Drive a bracing pin through both the post and the bracing post. This completes the bracing assembly. Repeat for each bracing assembly you need.
- 1). Install the wooden fence posts every eight feet along the fence line, using the same method as in the previous section. Use the string as a guide for keeping the fence straight. Allow the fence posts to set in several days before installing the no-climb fence.
- 2). Place the roll of wire on the ground beside the first bracing assembly. Unroll about 3 feet of the fence. Place a heavy object on the small amount of the fence you rolled out. This will hold the wire down. Unroll the rest of the wire.
- 3). Set about 16 feet of the wire up against the fence posts. Install some temporary fence staples to hold the fence in place. Pull the end of the wire around the first bracing post. Cut the end vertical wires off the fence, leaving only the horizontal wires.
- 4). Wrap the horizontal wires around the first post and back. To attach the fence to the post, wrap the wires several times around themselves. Cut off any excess wire. Hammer a fence staple at the top and bottom of the first post to attach the fence.
- 5). Pull the fence tightly to the next post. Hammer a staple at the top, and bottom of this post to install the wire to it. Continue installing the fence as tightly as possible to the fence post until you reach the end of the fence.
- 6). Pull the wire tightly around the end post. Cut and remove the vertical wires the same way you did when you started the fence. Wrap the wire back around itself. Pull the fence tight with a fence stretcher and staple in place.
