    • 1). Test the gas stove to make sure it is in proper working condition. This means checking both the burners and the oven. Charities will only accept gas stoves that work.

    • 2). Clean the stove to prepare it for donation. Typically, the charitable organization only accepts appliances that are clean and free of any major blemishes.

    • 3). Select a charitable organization for your donation. Nationally, the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity accept gas stove donations. You also might find some local charities with thrift stores or furniture banks that accept gas stove donations, such as Via of Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. You also can sign up on ExcessAccess.com to see a list of charities near you.

    • 4). Arrange to get your donation to the charity you have chosen. You might need to drop off the stove at a donation center or set up an appointment to have the gas stove picked up. For example, the Salvation Army offers to pick up donations. Call for an appointment at 800-728-7825.
