"Extreme American Makeover" by Mitali Perkins - Good, Relaxing, Funny Story
A good read which kind of relaxes the reader and makes you feel you know the central character yourself.
Very good narration and very simplistic.
A story of Sameera Righton, who is a Pakistani by origin but adopted by James & Elizabeth Righton.
She is sixteen years old and has been living in America with her new parents ever since she turned 3.
But she is not a typical American teenager.
She is very different.
She has a mind of her own, thoughts and opinions of her own.
She is used to feeling invisible because she is not as hot as many other girls and her body is under-developed.
Suddenly she finds herself being chased by paparazzi and is the center of attention by the whole world because her father is the republican candidate for the America's Presidential race.
Wow..
! The story is a beautiful narration of how her life changes once she gets to the center stage of the exhausting presidential election campaign.
She gets a makeover done and suddenly finds herself getting too much of attention, and no privacy.
She has a very nice circle of friends but soon she starts meeting new people and realizes that she needs to expand her circle and welcome new people in her life.
The story is well written and touches upon various aspects including religion, politics, girl talk, presidential election campaign, life on a farm land, blogging...
All and all a story which you will feel you can relate to, a story that will make you giggle at times and feel happy for all the people in there.
Its not like most other stories which start on a happy note, get sad in between as details of everyone's life start spilling over and then ultimately suddenly you find yourself closing the book with a very predictable happy ending.
No this is fun all through the book, simple moments, simply narrated.
Best part is it's the journey of a girl and it never once digresses from the main plot, not when she gets in her day to day routine of living with relative on their dairy farm, nor when she meets this perfect guy and falls head over heels in love with him, not when she meets people from her own original community and they give her an insight and perspective to her own life.
This is a good read which would make you feel relaxed and refreshed...
so go for it...
