How to Publish a Hair Salon Directory

    • 1). Go beyond the salon's basic information. Mention how long the salon has been in business, some famous styles that the salon is known for, some background information on the owner and stylists, any possible career opportunities at the salons, and how you can reach them for appointments. If certain salons have celebrity stylists, put this in the directory.

    • 2). Include advertisements from local beauty supply stores and cosmetology schools. Meet with those businesses in person and discuss the purpose of your directory. Offer them a discount for advertising in your directory, and write some one-page profiles of the businesses' owners.

    • 3). Include a list of yearly hair shows near the end of the book. Contact hair show organizers in your city and out of town and say that you would like an itinerary of upcoming hair shows for the next three to five years as well as some information on the shows themselves and the history of them.

    • 4). Create a Web-based version of your directory. Get a professional to build your website and ask him to include some colorful graphic designs, background information on yourself, and a section where new salon owners can send you information that can be featured in the directory. Also include pictures of some of the salons' clients on the website.

    • 5). Promote your directory. Take the print version of your directory to beauty supply stores, cosmetology schools, hospitals, universities, and other retail establishments. Also create some flyers and leave them at supermarkets, coffeehouses, and churches. In the flyers, mention your website address, email address and a brief description of the directory.
