How to Kill Mildew Odor in an Icemaker

    • 1). Unplug the icemaker so it's not getting power while you clean it. This prevents injury from electrical discharge.

    • 2). Empty the icemaker entirely and discard the ice inside. The ice likely has mildew mixed in with it and should not be used or consumed.

    • 3). Spray the inside of the icemaker with white vinegar, which is nontoxic and removes mold effectively. Vinegar is also a natural deodorizer and helps remove the remaining mildew odor.

    • 4). Wipe down the icemaker thoroughly, using a soft cloth to remove the vinegar and scrub away mildew in the machine.

    • 5). Sprinkle baking soda into the icemaker to further absorb mildew odors. Let the baking soda sit for several hours, wipe it out, then plug in the icemaker.
