The Romans used comfrey to heal bones and treat sprains as well as the Chinese who also use it for healing wounds. It's a fast-growing perennial that has hairy leaves and stems and grows to an average height of 3 to 5 feet. This prolific plant bears small flowers of red, purple, light yellow or white. Local Harvest is a website that carries roots, seeds and plants for both the true and Russian varieties of comfrey. They sell 20 healthy, organically grown plants, which can be used as a compost activator, livestock tonic or for medicinal purposes. Local Harvest has been in operation since 1998.
Orders placed online are supplied from Panther Rock Farm, in the foothills below the Catskill Mountains of New York State. Visitors are welcome to shop at their organically certified farm and see how their plants are grown and tended up close. In addition, they offer special events and informative workshops. - Horizon Herbs website fills seed orders direct from their own farm.
