Holidays To Remember
I remember when my family and I went on our summer 2007 holiday and visited a little sea side resort in the South West of England.
We parked up our MPV and walked the short distance from the car park towards the shopping centre with its quaint little gift shops, cafe's and restaurants.
As we entered the shops and looked a little further on we could see a carousel with wooden horses and wooden carriages.
My daughter and two sons were so excited they didn't even stop to ask about the ice creams, all they wanted was to go and see the beautifully painted carousel with wooden horses and carriages.
We put them on the ride, my daughter so proud to be the 'Queen' on her wooden horse and the boys in the carriage being pulled by these big strong horses.
Well one ride wasn't enough so off they went on their adventure for a second time, their faces with so much excitement, it was a joy to see.
We decided it was time for some dinner after all the excitement so we ventured back to the cafes and restaurants.
We had missed all the lovely shops on the way to the carousel and as we neared the high street there it was, this lovely toy shop with lots of different natural wooden toys in the window.
We could see looking through the window and into the shop a child's wooden rocking horse and other kids wooden toys set out on a display.
We entered the 'Aladdin's' cave and browsed at all the different types of toys, they were all made of wood, the cars, jigsaws, houses and people.
We had already bought a child's wooden rocking horse for my daughter the previous Christmas so we looked at some wooden cars and jigsaws to buy.
They were intricately carved by the master wooden toymaker, full of detail and finely finished without the worry of chemical impregnation, a must in today's toys.
We bought them without hesitation knowing full well they would give many hours of enjoyment in the evening whilst we were on holiday, but not only that, they would be used again and again at home for even more fun of knowing they were bought on our family holiday.
It's good to know that more people are looking at wood as the material to ask for and use because its more environmentally friendly and robust, it will most definitely last generations which helps towards less environmental issues caused by waste, but if there is waste, wood can be made into wood chippings and used on pathways and gardens.
More master toy wooden makers are producing carved intricate natural wooden toys, even with the latest of characters and vehicles being produced for the mass market.
There is certainly an upsurge in the wooden toy market and its growing weekly especially with the environment being headline news on a daily basis.
Wood is going to be the material of the future, especially as plastic becomes more expensive as oil starts to become less profitable.
